Founded in 1975, the Grant County Historical Society intends to discover, procure, and preserve all aspects of Grant County History including writings & physical objects (military, structural, and genealogical).  Charter Members were local school teachers and community leaders.  Their foresight provided a foundation for today’s preservation.

Charter Members:   Left-right: Harold Garber, John Keller Reid, Mildred Inskeep, Ruth Harman, Norma Groves, Dick Fulcher, Carlton Browne, Bob Snyder and not pictured was Edith Bosley.

Reorganized in 2001, the historical society became a 501C3 tax-exempt organization and set its sights on preserving local buildings like the Davis House, the Tannery House, and the Old Courthouse.   The society maintains a presence at local town/community events in an effort to encourage local citizens to invest in their community and its history with a donation of time or money.

Meetings are open to the public and are held on the 3rd Tuesday each month at the Old Grant County Courthouse at 115 Virginia Avenue, Petersburg.

Join us with an individual membership (at $10/year) or with an individual lifetime membership ($50) or a couple’s lifetime membership ($75).
